This is only partially right. The lens itself does
still move through the distance range at the same
speed. So if you track an object or override AF and
then let the camera to the refinement you don't gain
anything. Only if the camera has to go through the
whole range to find the focusing distance the whole
process becomes faster because you only have to go
from 0.48m-infinity instead of 0.31-infinity. The
difference in m does not sound a lot but if you
observe how much you have to turn the focusing ring
from 0.31 to 0.48 and 0.48 to infinity you will
realize that it helps a lot.
