If you're using E-TTL flash, a disadvantage to second curtain sync becomes the
pre-flash. It's fired before exposure and causes people to think the exposures
been made and animals to close or squint their eyes. If you're shooting an
extended exposure, be sure to tell people that there will be two flashes. For
the animals, use a faster exposure time or first curtain syc.
The timing is pre-flash, shutter open, flash, shutter close.
