I tried setting it on the flash and it is confirmed as being set in the
viewfinder, so I think that's what I'll do. Given I will primarily be
using the flash with fast film and fast lenses, I think I'll leave it
set for -1 stop all the time. I always take at least two shots of any
presentation because the subjects often blink at just the wrong moment!

Not entirely. Each of the shots produced at least one useable slide.
Overall, I reckon my initial guess of +1 stop would have been OK. I
didn't bracketed in anything less than whole stops - at least that way
I can tell the difference between them! I used the custom function to
change the bracket order to 'under, on, over'.

I'll try to scan some this weekend, but of course the scan won't really
reflect the relative exposure of the slide. As you might expect, the
least exposed ones (effectively taken at the matrix metered value)
appear to offer the best colour, but most of those are really too dark.
Most of the lightest ones (+2 stops over metered) are very washed out.
The camera did a commendable job even with the sun in the frame.
Actually selecting bracketing was a bit of a pain because you have to
press two of the little rubber buttons under the palm door
simultaneously and the camera kept thinking I wanted to test the
batteries! Must get some better gloves...

Having seen all the slides now, the flare from the 28-70/2.8 L zoom is
a bit worse than I originally thought, especially when the sun is
unobscured. I don't really mind. I've yet to get any filters for it,
but I will probably go for a Hoya HMC UV at around 40 UKP. With the
lens stopped right down, I got a nice multi-point affect with the sun
on one shot. In retrospect, I should have re-taken some of the shots at
different apertures because the DoF wasn't enough in some. The 'macro'
facility is useful, but I would have benefitted from being able to go
closer with some gorse and holly leaves.

>BTW, congrats' on all the new gear - well bought.

Cheers. Will be using the 135/2 and 550EX in anger for the first time
on Saturday evening. Now I have to push myself into flogging the AF
Minolta gear. I've had five front covers and a poster printed so far
this season, on top of all the inside shots, but I've not earnt
anywhere near enough to cover all the kit I've been buying!

Chris.
