I hate to say this, but your dilemma is one of the reasons that I kept my 
manual focus Canons.  Low light autofocus had plagued me, especially when 
shooting indoors with my EOS-RT.  People all around me with the lowliest 
point-and-shoot cameras had no problems.

Solution?  Bring the RT and my T-90 with a 55mm f1:1.2 lens just in case.
