Indeed. You'll have to pay customs (some 2-3%) and VAT (22%) of the
total price, *including* postage. Also, you'll probably have to go
to customs office to collect the gear and to take care of the
paperwork, unless you use FedEx or DHL or some such who will
handle it for you at some outrageous price.
I would recommend sticking to European shops unless and until
dollar/euro rate falls quite a bit more. Besides NY-Camera, which has
had some problems in timely delivery recently, you could consider
TechnikDirekt (www.technikdirekt.de, almost as cheap as NYC) or
IsarFoto (www.isarfoto.de, usually a bit more expensive but carries
some stuff other Germans don't, like Arca Swiss ballheads).
