Dear Csaba,

I don't know what effect that leaving the command dial on would have.
However....

Don't discount the possibility that you may have got a dud set of batteries.
Recently, my EOS500 went through two sets of batteries in the space of about
2 weeks, with only limited camera use.  I suspected a short circuit was
causing the batteries to discharge.  Canon inspected the camera and found no
fault.

It turns out that the Kodak batteries which I had bought from our local
store were no good.  I've since changed brands.
