Does anyone have any experience with the 28-80 f2.8-4.0L? I need a lens in
this focal length range, and I can save quite a bit of money compared to the
28-70 2.8L.

Photodo rates the two lenses very close... how is contrast and autofocus
speed? Aside from cost, there is another big plus for me... it will share
72mm filters with my 20-35 2.8 and my 80-200 2.8.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

I owned this zoom and I can say that is is really wonderfull. It produced
some of sharpest pics I got with my old EOS 1N. It is a big and heavy zoom
and at long end only f:4 but if you can get it at a convenient price do not
doubt. As every zoom has slightly more light off, more distortion and more
flare then equivalent covering range primes, but not less sharpnes. I traded
it and I am now regretful.

Kind regards
