To calculate a normal lense for any kind of film format. Use the following:
c2 = a2 + b2
(Pythagorean Theorem)
where "a" and "b" are sides of the film(say: 24mm and 36mm)
(NOTE: 24mm and 36mm are the sides of a regular 35mm frame)
then "c" results in ~43mm, which the normal focal length for 35mm film.
That's why Nikon ever made a 43~86mm zoom.
