1st, JOIN the Filmscanners mailing list
(http://www.halftone.co.uk/tech/filmscan/maillist.htm) - They know a lot
more about this stuff than this list here!!

2nd, the ICE or FARE can be turned off (also said in the Canon press
release I think). Then it's just like "normal" scanning with out the
cleaning procedures.

3rd, didn't Canon write that their algorithms were independently
developed... so Canon has FARE, which therefore is not ICE (even though it
might have the same limitations).

4th, Vuescan apparently has a cleaning and grain removal algorithm that
uses the IR channel AND works with Kodachrome (and B/W films) too. You
might want to check the Filmscanner list for more info on this. Ed (the
developer) frequently writes there about the progress of Vuescan.

5th, Join the filmscanner list. That's what they are for... here we talk
EOS.
