Hi Jon,
I bought my daughter her first "real" camera when she
was 5. We were going on a driving holiday and she
wanted to be able to take her own photos.
I got her a Minolta Riva AF with a 38mm lens. She was
old enough to take reasonably good care of it, and it
was cheap enough that it wasn't of great consequence
if she didn't. It was on a clearance at the local
K-Mart for about the same price as the Fisher-Price
one you mentioned (about 50% off).
I'd look for one on sale, or even better a cheap 2nd
hand one. If it lasts it can be handed on to the next
one in line!
BTW, she's not a bad photographer either!
Regards
Gary
