Depth of field is determined by image size, not by format. If his lights
are properly set, so exposure is uniform across the group back-to-front &
side-to-side and his camera is high enough so that the film plane is
parallel to the plane of the faces he should have no problem. That said, my
first comment was that he was inadequately equipped. He is.
