I don't want to get you disgruntled, but about a year and a half ago I sent
my (purchased used) Tokina 28-70 f/2.6-2.8 to THK (US Tokina distributor)
and got the upgrade done, so that it would work with my new EOS 3, for free.
I spoke to a person named Mike Burnham who I believe heads up their
technical services department and he agreed to do the (I seem to recall him
mentioning $95) re-chipping job at no cost. Maybe I schmoozed him or
something, but he was really the epitome of good customer relations and
product support. The other part is that I was clearly willing to pay the
cost of the upgrade as the Tokina was a hell of a good lens and worked like
a champ on my EOS 5. And yes Bob, they did throw in a cleaning to boot.
Because of this and a similar experience I had with warrantee work done on
another Tokina, I am favorably impressed by THK.
