You didn't mention what your main camera body is. If it's the EOS 1N
then the 10 would be a fine backup, since neither will do E-TTL. If you have
the EOS 3 or 1V for main camera, and E-TTL is important to your shooting,
then the Rebel 2000 might be a better backup.
Having said that, and as an EOS 10 owner, it's a fine camera. Well
built, easy to grip and has many features. It shoots at a good FPS rate,
goes to 1/4000th, synchs to 1/125th.
It seems to go for a pretty high price used, a cheaper used backup body
might be the original Elan if your main camera was a 1N and E-TTL wasn't
your thing. The Elan goes quite a bit cheaper used it seems, and is a good
camera. However, if you feel the used 10 you're looking at is decently
priced then go for it. Tough to say about prices, I'm in Japan, and used 10s
are going for around 50,000 yen. That would be over $400 US. I know I know,
prices here are very high! That is a camera store price, with some warranty
and in top shape.
As a comparison, the new EOS 7 is 85,000 yen here, about $750 US. And to
think they make the darned things right up the road...
