Well, you can also just try it out. Put an object on a
table or something. Have some books a few feet behind
the object. Use a wide angle lens and move close
enough that the object fills the whole frame, all the
focus fields, or any other guidline. Step the lens
down until you can read the back of the books or
whatever else you put behind the object. Now use a
long lens and move further away till the object has
the same size as before. Repeat the same as with the
wide angle lens and you will come to the same f-stop.
