To replace Canon 100-300L /5.6, 100-300 USM, and 75-300IS? Plus to compete with Tokina 100-300/4.0 and new Sigma 100-300/4.0 HSM - both, according to tests produce great results and both cost around $1000. That old Canon 100-300L 5.6 is too old to compete with these two lenses. WHile it's optics may be fine - old AF motor and 5.6 all the way through - are just pain to have on an "L" lens. Of course, if 70-200L 2.8 came out with IS - it would be great too.
