Hi Dan,
Looks like you've isolated the problem for him - it
sounds like the ball is in his court now. He should
take the camera back to the dealer and do the same
sort of tests on other cameras/lenses in the shop. It
may be that the lens is faulty - it certainly sounds
like the body is OK.
BTW, what body are you thinking of upgrading to?
