Sounds to me like he knows less than you.....

The EOS-5 and the A2e are not the exact same thing.  The differences are
the manual metering scale and the auto pop up built in flash in certain
modes.  It doesn't pop up automatically on the A2e but does on the -5.

Operationally they are so close that you won't need a -5 owners'
manual.  The Hove book should suffice.  If you shoot in manual mode you
will now know how many stops you are over or under exposing, not just
that you are over or under.  In the green mode, portrait mode, and close
up mode the built in flash will pop up.  Those are the only differences.
