G'day Stuart,

I was referring to the FEL (Flash exposure lock) function of
the E-TTL system, hence it will only work with EX flash.

For 16 seconds after activating FEL against 18% grey, I can
find the aperture at which the camera blinks its underexposure
warning. When I applied negative flash exposure compensation,
I could make the underexposure warning disappear. Hence FEC
does work as advertised :-)

I can think of a theoretical way of tricking FEL to help meter
(optically slaved) manual flash too. Are you interested?

Cheers
Julian Loke
