Hi Jeff & Tom,

The Rebel SII is equivalent to the EOS 1000FN (which I still
have) that has the SF (soft focus) function. This is the same
body that has a choice of four tunes for self-timer music :-)

SF is a double-exposure mode that takes one in-focus exposure,
then defocuses the lens and takes a second exposure.

You can select one of two "levels" of SF (1 weak or 2 strong),
which seems to set the exposure for the defocussed image.
Weak appears to be 1 stop under, while Strong seems to be
at the same exposure.

The defocussing is dependent upon the subject distance. If
the subject is far away, the lens is defocussed to the nearest
distance for the lens. If the subject is close by, the lens
is defocussed to infinity.

Does SF work? Not very well with f/5.6 zooms. I will try
again with a faster prime lens (e.g. 50mm f/1.8) and report.

Cheers
Julian Loke
