Yes, absolutey! This lens it a gem! It was my first L lens and if
anything about it is bad, it is that it makes you want more of its kind.
:-) Fred summed it up quite nicely. I think it is THE lens to recommend
to someone who wants to expand the range of his standard zoom towards
the tele side, cares about quality but is on a limited budget. It is
light years ahead of the consumer tele zooms and still somehow
affordable, if only with some pain. And it takes the Canon TCs!
I've used this lens for outdoor portraits, where it gives a very
pleasing background blur and smooth out of focus highlights wide open.
I've used it in landscape photography and also for architectural details
and its sharpness, contrast and color rendering really shine there. I've
used it for equestrian (sp?), car racing and wildlife - and its speed
comes real handy there.
It is not as versatile as a 70-200/2.8 zoom, but then it is much
cheaper, smaller and lighter. I don't think you will regret buying it.
