I think during the reception you're fine. During the
processional / recessional, assuming you can use
flash, I think you're ok, because people are really
concentrating on the couple and probably won't notice
the read pattern in the midst of everything else.
During the ceremony itself, however (I'm assuming
you're the designated "official" photographer), you
need to be as unobtrusive as possible. At this point,
I think people would definitely notice a blinking red
pattern bouncing off the bride and groom.
When I used to shoot weddings, I set up one body on a
tripod (with manual focus and manual wind, for
silence), pre-focused, with no flash. The location
varies according to to the church, of course. Note
that it IS possible to move around, a little, during
the service, as long as you stay to the side or rear
of the guests, and move slowly and quietly. The
guests are generally so focused on the ceremony they
don't notice you unless you do something to call
attention to yourself.
