Hi all

Below is my old mail which actually might give some answers
to the original question. I may be a bit late but I was on a
vacation for a week so...

-------
I was lucky enough to be able talk to a person who seems
to know the EOS3 firmware versions (I'm not sure how close
to Canon s(he) is though...) and because I haven't seen
this I thought you might be interested as well.

At least for me everything is now clear (enough). I was
previously suspicious when I read the messages in this forum:
sometimes someone "knew" that FW 2.1 is the latest firmware and sometimes
someone other had hear that there is no new firmware
to fix the "underexposure problem".

NOTE: Since I didn't write anything down I may remember
some details wrong!

- There are two SW components involved:
  1) The Adjustment software (runs in a PC)
  2) The camera FW (firmware)

Adjustment SW:
--------------
- The Adjustment SW is a tool which is used by camera
service technician to adjust some settings manually.
It also may make some settings/fixes in the camera
  automatically.
I think CF19, power consumption problem with long teles
and the exposure changes are done with this tool.
- The version 2.1 (e.g. 2.1R or 2.1F or whatever) what some
have mentioned to be FW version is actually version of this
SW tool (running in a PC).
- Once more: this program is not loaded in to the camera.
Instead it is used to change some settings.

Camera FW:
----------
- Also a new camera FW can be downloaded (in to the camera)
but probably is not required to fix any of the above
  mentioned problems.
- The current version number is PERHAPS 6.0 or in that range.

NOTE: Since I didn't write anything down I may remember
some details wrong!

BTW. I also had my EOS-3 (very early version) checked and
I was told my camera was underexposing 0.5 stops at all
EV checkpoints.
When I asked more they said that *if* there is an underexposure
problem it often is such that at EV 15 the exposure is fine
but at the two(?) lower EVs which they use to check the
exposure the error (-0.5 stops) is visible.
The factory tolerance is half a stop (thus +-0.25 stops),
I think.

NOTE: Since I didn't write anything down I may remember
some details wrong!
