The Softbox is for shoe-mount flashes such as the 420EX and the 550EX. The
Softbox II is for bare-bulb flashes such as the Quantum Q-Flash.
I currently use the Westcott Micro Apollo, which provides a bigger light
source and loses less light (1 stop), but it blocks the AF assist beam. The
cut-out at the bottom of the Lumiquest softboxes gives enough clearance for
the AF assist beam.
If you are shooting indoors, in a room with white walls and ceiling, the
Sto-fen Omnibounce is worth a look.
