To add insult to injury, I got an e-mail from this individual with the first
section being my question earlier today whether this virus can open itself,
and then the last line being "Take a look at this", for a second it almost
sounds like this person is saying that the attachment he had sent to others
are not virus in nature and that I should "take a look at this" myself to
perhaps proof his innocence.
But when I inspected the attachment file (without opening it), it has a .scr
file extension, which means it's a "script" file, which is kind of like a
bunch of macro commands.
Another caution to add to what Bob has mentioned above is before you open a
file, make sure you have identified its' FULL file name, I believe the last
virus that got around came across masqueraded as a filename.jpg.exe (or
something like that), so people who opened it thinking it was a .jpg file
got burned when the executable file happily went away propagating itself.
