Hi Stefan!
Can't say how would it work with 550EX, but my EOS 500 (Rebel XS) works
great (as manual suggests) with 380EX. No AF assist from 380EX (only white
body lamp), but TTL right on.
If you send me 550EX I can test it for you ;-))
