Looking at the lens shade of my 28-135 mm IS USM, I disagree.
The old, feltclad plastic lens shade with teflon bearings
as for the FD 1.2/85 mm L lens can take more impact, shows 
less wear on the mounting parts and is less prone to 
deformation than any metal lens shade.

Nope, good modern lens shades like the 
aforementioned two are far superior to 
this old design.
