Canon announces PowerShot S110 Digital ELPH! Update to PowerShot S100 adds movie support, direct printing and more... Canon has today announced its new PowerShot S110 Digital ELPH digital camera, an update to the existing S100 model with a number of additions. The PowerShot S110 includes AVI MotionJPEG movie support with audio (the tiny gold microphone on the front of the camera being about the only visible difference between the S110 and S100, other than the model number). There's also support for direct printing with Canon's CP10 Card Photo printer, noise-reduction software on exposures above 1/6th second, an extra image resolution (1024 x 768), a new DSP, and a slightly higher weight of 190 grams without batteries (15 grams more than previously). There's also a new look for the bundled battery charger, and the latest versions of all the bundled software. The size remains exactly the same, as does sensor resolution and the 2x optical zoom lens - the digital zoom is reduced from 2x/4x to 2.5x. Competition for the PowerShot S110 will likely be Canon's own 2.1 megapixel, 3x optical zoom PowerShot S300 (which is 35% larger by volume, 27% heavier and will cost $100 more), and Kyocera's 3.34 megapixel, 2x optical zoom Finecam S3 (which is only 7% larger by volume, 29% lighter, and includes features the S110 lacks like user-adjustable ISO, spot metering, aperture priority, TIFF uncompressed mode and double the bundled memory, albeit at a cost $150 above the S110's). the Digital IXUS V, as the PowerShot S110 will be known in Europe Specification Highlights - full specifications here Canon PowerShot S110 Digital ELPH General Model Number: S110 Camera Format: Ultra-Compact Price: Recommended $599 Date Available: June 2001 Image Capture Image Sensor: 0.37" 2.11 megapixel RGB CCD Image Resolution: 1600x1200, 1024x768, 640x480 Lens Focal Length (effective): 35 - 70 mm (2x optical zoom) Digital Zoom: 2.5x Auto Focus: Yes, TTL 3 point AiAF Manual Focus: No Normal Focus Range: 57 cm to Infinity; 23.3 in to Infinity Macro Focus Range: 10 - 57 cm; 4.1 - 23.3 in Aperture Range: f/2.8 (wide) / 4.0 (tele) - ???
