Exactly. I said that in detail when I pointed out that
it is the size of the light source in relation to the
subject two sentences later.

Absolutely correct.

That is exactly what I wrote just two sentences later.

Which is exactly why those small Lumiquests et al
do little more but drain ones pockets. Closing in
they make sense, but already taking portraits with
a 135 mm telephoto results in different shades in
the background but very little or no difference in
the face of your subject. Try for yourself.

Exactly.

Yes. On the other hand if there is direct light, the
amount of scattered light does little to add to the
exposure, because it is very weak in comparison to the
direct light.
