I have used my D30 successfully with a 1000/10 T-mount lens
at 1000mm and 2000mm (with a Pentax 5-element 2x). Just
set the camera to "M", set the aperture to that of your
lens (or lens + TC combo) and change the shutter speed until
the camera meters proper exposure.
As with any long lens, focusing get more challenging with
increasing focal length.
