Hi Billy,
There is a different method, which is cosmetically less obvious.
I hesitated in posting, because this method requires partial
disassembly of the 28-135, and care must be taken not to damage
the lens in the process. Read for your entertainment, do at your
own risk!
By rolling back the rubberized zoom grip, three screws holding
a cylindrical bearing that control zoom friction are exposed.
Removing ONLY ONE of the screws, it is possible to apply plumbers'
Teflon tape to thicken the cylindrical bearing. After replacing
the screw and bearing, check that the additional friction is
enough to prevent zoom creep. If not, Teflon up an additional
bearing. NEVER REMOVE ALL THREE SCREWS AT ONCE.
