That could well be true. In fact, there are reports of the
original version of the EF 50mm f/1.8 (with the metal mount and
the distance scale) turning up in a dealers old stockroom well
after it had been discontinued.
Any chance of that shop in Slovenia having the EF 50 f/1.8 ?
