I recently got the Canon 100-300 f5.6 L EF lens and after taking it out to a
nature reserve realized that the focal length is still too short for birds
and small animals unless they are tame and come to bird feeders etc. I would
love to get a 1.4 or 2x teleconverter, but I understand that they will not
work with this lens because of a protrusion on the teleconverter. I was told
that I could get a 12mm extension tube and then add the teleconverter, but
that then you lose infinity focus.
Are there any other tricks one can use to use the Canon teleconverter and
maintain infinity focus. What about other quality teleconverters...can they
be used with this lens and still maintain autofocus and metering. If so,
could someone recommend one that will work and still give very good results.
Thanks.
Howard
