Hi - As I'm getting more and more familiar with the FD lens line (I had three of them for years and just never looked any further) I see that some of them bear pretty close resemblance to EF lenses of the same focal length, such as a 20-35L I just saw eBay. My question: are all EF lenses a completely new design, or are there some - or even many - that are basically the same as their FD forebearers but with a new mount/focus mechanism? I realize that much has to change for the interface with an electronic camera, but I'm asking about the basic optical design.
