Hi Lars,

This is even easier. The Horizontal field of view of a 360 degree
panorama is, of course, 360 degrees. The lens used determines
the VERTICAL field of view. There is a lens calculator at:
http://www.panoguide.com/reference/lens%5Fcalculator.html and

A focal length of 35mm on 135 film produces field of view of
55 degrees along the long edge and 38 degrees along the short
edge. You will need 19 pictures to cover 55 x 360 degrees
with 50% overlap (for the stitching software). This needs
to be shot with the camera in vertical format.

Interestingly, the 17mm on a D30 should produce a field of view
of field of view of 58 degrees along the short edge and 60 degrees
along the long edge.

This means that you only need 9 pictures shot with the D30 to
cover 58 x 360 degrees with 50% overlap! And you can shoot
with the D30 in the normal horizontal orientation too.

Cheers
Julian Loke
