IMHO Manual mode is the way to go. Depending on how much light you'll need
and how powefull the flash is sticking to a slower shutter speed would
be best (1/30). Even more so if you use a bounce. Just set the flash
exposure to match the subject (bright flower +1 - +2).
Ignore the exposure indicator in the viewfinder. It will indicate the
exposure of the background. (Unless you want the background at a certain
exposure)
