I recently bought a Novoflex "EOS-RETRO" Lens Reverse Adaptor which retains
all EOS lens functionality (including autofocus). The standard thread
fitting is 58mm, although standard stepped adaptors can be used.

I have been using the Novoflex with a 50mmf1.4, and intend to buy another
prime (probably 28mm) to extend my capabilities. But I would like to
experiment with the flexibility that a zoom offers. The subjects will vary,
as I am experimenting at this time.

The only zoom that I have is the 28-135 IS (72mm thread).

My questions are:

(1) What would be the effect of using the 28-135 IS in terms of picture
quality (naturally I would need to buy a 58-72 step-up ring)?

(2) What fairly cheap used EOS zoom would readers recommend to buy that
would be capable of achieving quality approaching a prime?

BTW, previously I have been a reverse lens adaptors with my F-1 and 20, 24,
35, and 50mm primes.
