I own the Sigma 2.8/70-200HSM and I find the AF speed is very good.
Unfortunately, I can�t compare to the Canon pendant, but I found out,
that AF speed also depends on the body.
When I bought my Sigma 17-35 HSM I tested it on an EOS 3 in the shop.
At home, when I attached it to my EOS 5 I felt that the AF speed was
slower. So I guess a more modern body will increase AF speed.
I will know soon, cause I plan to get an EOS 3 before I gon on a trip
to Canada / Rockies in September :-)
