There have been several posts here about how the various cameras display the aperture
and shutter speed values. I have read elsewhere (sorry, never saved the link) that
EOS cameras internally measure in 1/8 stop increments. Thus, despite what the display
indicates in Av and Tv mode, the camera will set the shutter or aperture,
respectively, to the "correct" value within 1/8 stop, with the aperture and shutter
speed, respectively, set to what you indicated.
For example, you set f/8 in Av mode and the display shows 125 (the theoretical shutter
speed would be 1/128 second). The actual shutter speed may be 1/117, or 1/140, in
addition to 1/128)
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
One simple question if that is true: how can the camera (EOS 3 or 1) measure both 1/3
stop increments and 1/8 stop increments? Is the camera actually measuring in 1/4 stop
increments and not 1/3 stop?
