Indeed, as the list member in question, I just wanted to comment on
this. I was interested in Julian's modifications, since the Elan and
the original Rebel and Rebel II have somewhat similar camera casings.
I was wondering if it'd be possible to apply Julian's BP-50
modifications to an Elan.
Unfortunately, dear readers, it looks like you can't. The Elan and
Elan II are in fact wider than the Rebel on the side away from the
handgrip. You'll notice in Julian's photo that the battery case
extends beyond the camera case somewhat. The Elan II, for which the
BP-50 was designed, has a cutout notch on the side, to accommodate
the extra lip that the BP-50 has. The original Elan does not, so
unless you were to hack that lip off the battery pack, yer out of
luck. Bummer.
>Has anyone else hacked their EOS camera?
I hacked a cable into an RC-1 infrared remote control so I can use
it as a wired shutter release, if that counts. The Elan lacks a
remote control socket, and the infrared controller is annoying if you
want to take a photo from *behind* the camera rather than from the
front, where the infrared receiver is located. So I just extended the
LED with a wire and velcro it to the front of the camera when needed.
Ugly, but it works.
No fuzzy dice, however. Hey - you know what'd be cool? Some guys
(never women, I'm sure) like sticking neon tubes underneath their
low-slung El Caminos. Maybe EL wire or panels on a camera would be,
like, totally rad!
