I have an Elan II and a 550EX. I shoot dance pictures at pretty dark dance
venues, and it seemed to work so far, except on Sunday. It was a bit darker
then usual, but I didn't think it should have made difference. The other
difference I can think of is the focus mechanism. I think I was using manual
focusing as opposed to autofocus because it was so dark it could not focus
well.

Most of the pictures came out terribly underexposed.

I am wondering - how does the metering happen with E-TTL when there is no
active focus point like in manual focusing?

thanks,

-e
