It should be remembered that at 1:1 the Canon EF 100 f2.8 Macro USM wide
open has an effective aperture of f5.9 (according to Canon). At 1:2 the
effective aperture is f4.6.
Due to its internal focusing design at 1:1 the focal length also apparently
reduces slightly. The Manual doesn't mention this:-)
If you use an off-brand 2x extender then the effective magnification will be
2:1 @ f11.8 and 1:1 @ f9.2.
I have found lots of problems using a single 380EX Speedlite, both on-camera
and using a OCSC2.
How well does the MR-14EX Ring Lite work? and does anyone have experience of
other brand Ring Lites. e.g. The Cobra or Centon Models. The street price
for the MR-14 EX is 350 GBP in the UK. The Cobra (GN 5) is 55 GBP, and the
Centon MR-20 and MR40 models (GN 5) are 60 GBP and 100 GBP respectively.
