Because the max. aperture less then 5.6 in this case. If you use third party
converter, which don't tell to the body the multiplied aperture, than IS is
working. This thing only with A2(EOS 5) body.

Yes, of course would work!

No, this is wrong! The A2 body switch off the power of the AF (and IS use
the same power) when the max. aperture less then 5.6.
