Hi Howard,

My suggestion would be to have the lens examined by a competent repair shop. They
can answer your questions and, perhaps more importantly, tell you whether what
you're seeing is "dust" or fungus. Fungus will, of course, destroy any coating
and eventually etch the glass, requiring the element be replaced. The earlier you
catch it, the better.
