Hi Pattie-
In the situation you described, the shutter speed will *blink* in the
viewfinder, indicating that you need to set a lower one.
(or maybe it's the aperature number that blinks... not sure how the Rebel
works... but one of those two numbers will blink indicating that if you
went ahead and took the picture it would be underexposed)
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
