Thanks for the kind words, and sorry if my editorializing offended
you. However, I'm afraid that I do find the animation unpleasantly
distracting. And it does take away from the overall high quality of
the page, I believe.

The first time I saw the page I thought - hey... what a cool
animated graphic with deceleration built in to the movement. Clever.
Then as I scrolled down the page I got more and more annoyed as the
menu icon kept zipping down and appearing in my peripheral vision. Hi
there! I'm still here! Yoohoo! A few more page downs and I disabled
Javascript in my browser.

Basically, I'm of the opinion that Web pages meant to convey
information should be free of flickering or motion, particularly if
that motion is used to draw the user's attention to something pretty
well unimportant, like a menu item. At the very least there should be
an option to allow the user to disable the animation without
crippling the browser.

I don't know about the UK, but in North America most television
stations now include a small translucent logo in the corner of the
screen so that you always know what channel you're tuned to. This
logo is usually referred to as a "bug," and by analogy I referred to
your translucent animated menu button as one.

I've rewritten my remark to be less... inflammatory, but I still
believe the deceleration-movement animation, while ingenious, is
somewhat detrimental to actual use of the page.
