OK, this is OT, so I'll be brief
The major brand names are well known - Bogen/Manfrotto, Gitzo, Slik .
. . They all have many models that would serve you. If you have a
good camera store you should just go browse. Or cruise the listings
at B&H and check out the features. Heads are sold seperately, so
there's no "ball head type" tripod. A really good ball head is big
bucks, but you can get away with a medium priced one. Cheap ones are
a major PITB. Don't go there.
You might also think about a Monopod. I use mine a lot. Light,
maneuverable, and adds lots of stability. You can use it with IS,
too!
FWIW, I use the following, all Bogen
Tripod 3401B - splayable legs, center post goes horizontal, great but
heavy tripod
Monopod 3249B - 3 section
Shoulder brace 361 - adds another point of stability
Head 3229 - one-axis swivel for Monopod, w/QR
Ball head 3262QR - until I can afford a $350 one!
Pan & Tilt head (3-axis) 3030 w/QR - great head.
