I own both the Vivitar 100mm f/3.5 macro and the 50mm f/1.8 Canon, plus the
Kenko 25mm tube. The working distance is better with the Vivitar than with
the tube and the 50, but that's to be expected. I've planned to get a
shorter tube, but haven't really gotten around to it. I find the present
setup a satisfactory compromise between how much I actually use them and how
much I think I need the 180mm USM. Results are good as long as you stop down
the Vivitar to f/8.0, and it's only a hundred bucks or so. Better use of
$100 to me than a 52mm 500D for the 1.8. Although I would like to have a
58mm 500D for the Pro90IS.
