With a tripod, this is true..but not a monopod.  IS can be left on using a 
monopod.

Still wondering about the focusing issue..tried it again and the same thing 
happened...a stuttering vibration at times when refocussing with the subject 
thrown just slightly out of focus to start with and sometimes ending with sub 
optimal focus.  Tried it with my Canon 100 f2.8 macro and it didn't happen.
