Copy from EOS1V board:

Like already said, also my 1.4x extender front cap got broken
and before my fix it was very loose.

I just yesterday evening removed the stoppers which prevent
the front cap from rotating more than normally. So now if I turn
far enough clockwise (tighten) it will rotate until it gets off.
It is still stiff enough so that it shouldn't rotate by itself.
At least it keeps the position now much better than it did with
two broken and one ok "ear". Definitely good enough and much
better than earlier.

The only possible drawback (albeit more or less theoretical to me)
is that if I turn the cap far enough (more than necessary) it will
turn the lens-present switch.

Normally if the extender is attached in the camera body without
a lens this switch is not activated and the camera will not try to
communicate with the lens. But if the front cap activates this
switch then it is possible that the camera locks up and gives the
"bc" indication when communication with the lens fails.

Since I usually remove both caps off the extender before attaching
it this won't become a problem but the possibility is good to
remember at least.

I used a minidrill with a small cutting wheel to remove the end
of each tree grooves in the extender plastic front cap.
It is possible that the ears break more if some cutters are used
since the plastic may be hard and thus easy to break.

I don't know if my fix has some other risks (e.g. the ears might
break totally after the fix has been made) but I don't believe
it harms the extender.

So I just wanted to say that if you do this do it on your own risk.

regards Vesa
