I can only speak for this lens and the old tamron 28-200, but I assume you
will get the newer one.  This is great glass.  Distortion is kept to a
minimum, the USM makes it lightning fast and quiet.  I use this lens when
I need a good general purpose lens.  I would not recommend it for low
light or portrait situations when you want a large aperature.  At the 28mm
side it is bearable, but at the 200 side it is not.  Course, this is
expected because it is not an L lens :)
